My heart goes out to the Deland family. I shopped at Jewel on July 12 and saw the people collecting; I gave a small donation. This is the kind of situation that should be passed along to people who can help in a large way, quickly. Has anyone given thought to contacting ABC’s Home Makeover or Oprah?
Meg
thank you for visiting our website. we do have one volunteer working on the application for the home makeover show, I have been trying to sent an e-mail to Oprah’s producer with out any luck so far, his mail box has been full and not excepting mail.
As Bob’s mother-in-law I’d like to add a heart-felt thank you to this Foundations developers and EVERY ONE of the kind persons and families who are helping us to get over this shock to our family. We are comforted by the thoughts of Bob free from his worldly struggles and now by the generous outpouring of strangers to us who are so lovingly giving their time and talents and dollars. Words truly can’t express our gratitude. It’s especially gratifying in these harsh economic times – we’re truly amazed and blessed by everyones caring. This is all just so overwhelming and APPRECIATED! You’re all helping so much to get this family back on their feet again and able to cope with this tragedy.
God Bless You All!!! We love you!
The families needs include school supplies for their 11, 13, 15 and 17 year old children.
And we’re trying to get a jump start on collecting firewood for this coming heating season. If anyone knows where we could find wood we do have a small chain saw to use to cut the wood down or into smaller pieces that will fit our Menards wood furnace Bob installed last season.
In past summers, I have seen free firewood available for the taking at Seager Park in Naperville off of Plank Road. I haven’t been there this summer, but it has been for at least the last 4 years.

Thank you for the information regarding the firewood, I will let the family know.
Have a good day, Thank you for your assistance.
God Bless
I was surprised to see this e-mail. I saw the family name and immediately put the two together. We live in the surrounding neighborhood of the Deland’s home. My son’s Boy Scout Den is collecting donations for the family as well. His Den leader has reached out to the Boy Scout dens in the Oswego school district asking for not only monetary donations but individuals time to repair things in the home etc.
Its great to see the community reach out to a family in real need of support.
We keep them in our prayers!
