We are in the process of filling out the application for The Extreme Home Makeover show. We have also tried to contact the producers of the Oprah show but have not had success in leaving a message, his VM box is full and will not accept any new VM’s. If anyone has any ideas how to reach them please post in comments.

I would love to mail a check if possible. Would it be made payable to Denise or the foundation? Please also advise the address of where to send.
Another idea that came to mind is how about some drop-off/ collection bins for food, school supplies, clothing, etc. Perhaps churches or local businesses might be willing to have places to leave these items.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on The Deland Foundation web site. I really like your idea about the drop-off collection bins. I will definitely check into doing that.
As for as a donation you go to any Harris Bank, you can mail your donation to any Harris Bank or use our pay pal account. Your donation should be made out to the Deland Community Foundation.
Thank you again, it is people like you that will help this family get back on their feet. It is so nice to know that there really are people out their who will take the time to help others and that have such big hearts.
GOD BLESS
I have been really touched by this tragedy and my sons cubs scouts have been amazing with gathering gift cards. The makeover show would be amazing and we will look into it as well. I can’t any family more deserving!!
God Bless this family
Karen
I am so over whelmed by the out poring of responses from our community. What a fabulous idea. (the makeover show) If you need any further information about the family, please feel free to contact my husband Frank via e-mail and I will be happy to assist you. I have a teen age son at home, he and his friends have really been touched by this tragedy as well, and willing to help in anyway they can. I would imagine the boy scouts feel the same way, what a wonderful opportunity for them. The gift cards can be sent or dropped off to any Harris Bank in the event you do not know the family personally.
Thank you so much for helping this family, If you have any further ideas please comment again.
God Bless.
You said “The money raised by the foundation will assist the family with future expenses, such as, Car repairs, security deposit for a new rental home, ”
Extreme Home Makeover won’t help because not only do they not own the home, but the website says “security deposit for a new rental home” To help them the show would have to buy the house and land then rebuild the house.
Ideas, how about buying the family a freezer. Gardens are starting to burst and the harvest can be frozen for a winters worth of food.
You don’t want folks to donate stuff but have you thought the stuff can be put in a benifit garage/rummage sale?
Jane,
Thank you for your information, What a great idea to get a freezer and freeze produce which is really starting to pop, we will get the board together and discuss this option. We are having a FAMILY FUNDRAISER in sept so come back to the deland foundation website for further updates,
god bless
Tracy
Have you tried contacting the Chicago television/radio stations? I’m extremely touched by this story and think they would pick up on something like this.
As for Oprah, keep an eye out for these applicable themes to the show:

My husband and I and possibly a group of our friends are interested in helping this family with monetary donations as well as Christmas gifts. We would like to get more information on clothes sizes, shoe sizes and maybe things that the children are requesting for Christmas. The computer idea sounded great have you been able to implement that? Please send me information as I will then be able to better help out. Thank you
