We want to thank everyone who has donated time, suggestions, money, and prayers for this family. We would like to summarize what your donations and suggestions have done for this family:
The family has signed up for Public Aide, food stamps, Social Security benefits, the Naperville Loaves and Fishes has invited the family to utilize their facility. A licensed professional counselor has donated his time and expertise in helping the family cope with their recent tragedy. Christ Community Church has signed the family up/and will pay for Angels Food, the have also given the family a gift card for Meijer, and has offered the church as a location for a concert, if we are able to confirm Matt West to come. The family who was loaning their car to the Deland’s has given them the title to the car. The Social Worker from the children’s school has contacted the family and is assisting Denise with school fees, registration and their lunch program. A very thoughtful lady by the name of Dee contacted the local YMCA and was successful in obtaining a 3 month pass for the family, after the YMCA people came to the home, and extended the pass for one year. The YMCA is working with the children, setting up a training program focusing on increase strength. The theater at 95Th and 59 has given the family a gift card allowing the family to have a couple of hours of fun and to take their minds off their troubles.
The Deland Community Foundation is paying the August and September rent, and electric bills. The foundation has also paid the fees to license and transfer the title of the car donated to the family. This was possible because of people like you. Thank You really doesn’t begin to describe our deep feelings of gratitude shown by all of you.
The Deland Community Foundation isn’t done yet! The families BASIC needs have been met: shelter, electric, food, transportation and education. Prior to this tragedy, Denise and her children had a husband and father they depended on, he was their life line. Robert was their security. The foundation could NEVER take his place, but it can offer a small amount of comfort to Denise by raising enough money for a “nest egg”, if you will. We are trying to think future: Denise has decided to stay at the farmhouse which she currently rents. She feels up-rooting the children now would be a mistake, they feel safe there, and there are so many good memories of Robert for her and the children there as well. Denise also says she can not go thru Robert’s things, she, understandably could not handle that at this time. Denise says she has friends that are willing and able to continue the up keep on the house, but Denise also admits she is aware they will need to move eventually. Denise mentioned that her landlord has been extremely generous and patient with their financial situation in the past five years that the family has been there, and she feels he will continue to be understanding of their current situation. That in itself gives Denise a great deal of relief and comfort.
The money raised by the foundation will assist the family with future expenses, such as, Car repairs, security deposit for a new rental home, medical bills, and home repairs. Wouldn’t it be a beautiful blessing if we could raise enough funds to put them into a home they could call their own!!!!!!!!
We have received many e-mails and phone calls requesting tangible items people could donate vs. cash.
We visit with Denise frequently and always ask if she or the children need anything. She has never asked for anything except some assistance with her rent and electric bill until her Social Security check arrives.
We can make some suggestions: The Deland’s daughter is 15 years old, a sophomore in high school. I think she may enjoy a gift card for the mall, maybe one of the stores the teens like to shop at so she can purchase some NEW school clothes. The 3 younger boys are 11, 13, and 17 maybe some mall gift cards for them as well. The Deland’s have always shopped at the goodwill stores and will continue to do so, this is just a thought. Fire wood will be needed for the winter to heat the house. The children may need shoes, maybe a gift card for a shoe store, and/or a gift card for hair cuts. The farm house does not have phone wires to connect a phone, however the land lord operates his business in the building behind the house the Deland family lives in, he has wireless computer excess, and wouldn’t it be nice to set the family up with a computer. When Denise found out about our web site, she had to go to the library to “check it out”, the children could benefit from a computer as well for school work. Thinking future: Denise could familiarize herself in using a computer for a possible future employment.
Monetary and tangible items can be dropped off at the Harris Bank in Naperville, the address and phone number is listed on the contact page.
Thank You Again and,
God Bess All
Thinking of you, praying for you all, Denise!

Tracy
Kim – any word on getting started on wood collection and splitting? Would be wonderful to go into fall with a growing supply of wood, knowing how much Denise will need each day.
And have you heard anything else about a window A/C unit? Not sure if this will reach you but I have no other contact information for Kim. Thanks!
Gary
I was just looking over the web site, saw your message, I’m sure you are already aware, the window a/c unit was offered to Denise, but she stated it would be for an upstairs bedroom and the season was almost over. She declined the window a/c unit. as far as the firewood goes, Denise informed us she was planning on having the gas turned back on. We did pay for parts needed to fix the van she stated would allow her to be independent in picking the firewood. We stopped our efforts in getting the firewood after speaking with Denise, I do understand now the wood is needed, we will attempt to get the firewood donated, hopefully we will be succussful
Our prayers are with you…..this story breaks my heart.
Where could we bring tangible donations or send gift cards to?
Would a food collection help, if so, what types of food are needed?
Are there any other items that the family might be able to use or need at home?
I would like to sponsor a group collection and wanted to know if the food supplies will help, or maybe toiletries, paper products? Any suggestions on the tangible objects other than gift cards? Where can they be dropped off.
God bless,
Martina

I see that the drop off for items is at the Harris bank..thanks
As school is beginning the children will likely need new school clothes and expenses for charges the school districts pass on. I would ask those folks who are able to please offer assistance to make this more comfortable for the children. For example, I believe the children will need a physical and shots to begin the school year, or fees for team sports.
God Bless this family.
Dear Klint,
Please contact us with any ideas, we are having a FAMILY FUNDRAISER, coming in sept, visit the Deland foundation website for further udates!
Thank You
God Bless

Is the anyway of finding out if the children with Cystic Fibrosis are in need of Scandia Shakes? I am a CF patient and I have some extra that I would love to give to them if they could use it.
Rosie
The people running this “foundation” will only take money donations
Is there a way to contact the family – this is really good for CF patients?
I have been in close contact with those associated with this foundation. I have to say my faith in humanity has been restored.
This is a tragic situation for this family and they are in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless all of you who have helped in some way. It is untrue that the foundation is only accepting monetary donations, help of any kind is accepted with gratitude. Of course, money is needed but any help that anyone can give is greatly appreciated.
I am humbled by the strength of Denise and her children, she is an example to us all and I pray that her struggles will soon ease.
God bless
ROSIE
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR OFFER. WE DO EXCEPT ANY KIND OF ASSISTANCE PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO OFFER.
I KNOW JOSH, THE 17 YEAR OLD IS IN END STAGE CF AND DOES REQUIRE A HIGH PROTEIN DIET. FRANK IS LISTED UNDER THE CONTACTS ON OUR WEB SITE.

I cannot find his e-mail address, will you please post it so that I can contact him. I will be happy to meet him to deliver some of this for him. Because of CF I cannot be near the family. He can e-mail me as well – Rosienpete@yahoo.com
I found his e-mail and I have e-mailed him now. Thank You
I’m hoping to get a response from him. I would love to get some of this to that family, does anyone have a way to get a hold of them? I live here in Plainfield so it would not be hard to get them to the family.
Rosie
Homestead and Wolf’s Crossing donated over $500 in a gift card from Walmart to Denise. She was VERY appreciative, as I”m sure this will help with school supplies, etc. I just wanted to let her know that she could also use it for gas, I believe, at Sam’s or Walmart for the car. (wasn’t sure if she knew this, but wanted to let her know that) Thoughts and prayers with her family!
Hi Kim,
I’m a hairstylist and I have a salon in my home. I read about the Deland’s on Tom Cross’s website, and I live in Plainfield. I’d love to help get the kids ready for school by donating haircuts to the kids before school starts. Please let me know if they’d be interested.
Thanks,
Julie Ferenzi
does anyone from the foundation ever read these pages?
Unfortunately I have found another family that needs these shakes. If the Deland family ever gets the message and needs some, please feel free to e-mail me and I will see if I cam get any more.
Good Luck to the Deland Family

I’m sorry I have taken so long to reply. Thank you so much for your generosity. I actually spoke with my hairdresser, she and her manager invited Denise and her children in for “before school” hair cuts. The family did take her up on the offer. They have already gone for their appointments and really enjoyed themselves.
Thank you again. Can I call on you in the future if the family is need of a hair cut?
God Bless
